Fort Zumwalt North High School

Fall 2018

At Fort Zumwalt North High School, I implemented Missouri's Comprehensive Guidance Program components by meeting individual needs in academic, career, and social-emotional areas. In addition to seeing students on an individual basis, I presented classroom lessons and led small counseling groups. For my classroom lessons, I presented on goal setting, study skills, and test-taking strategies. For my small counseling groups, I worked specifically with students in North High's Connect classroom. The students in the connect classroom have emotional health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar. Primarily, I worked with these students on problem solving strategies, time management, goal setting, executive functioning skills, and self-regulation skills.

In addition to leading student-centered interventions, I participated in the 504 eligibility process and 504 plan meetings, as well as IEP meetings for my students.

At all schools, safety of students is a main priority. At North High, I assessed for lethality concerns when I felt it necessary to do so.

Fort Zumwalt North Middle School

Fall 2018

Similar to North High, at North Middle, I saw students in individual, small group, and classroom settings, while using MCSCP components as my guide. I led classroom lessons on bullying prevention, student involvement, attendance, and social skills. I created and led a small counseling group on grief. After evaluating what student's needed, I saw that multiple students had a parent or parents that had died. The group was a major success. To reach more students, I created the 'Thankful for' campaign, as well as collaborated with an Assistant Principal to continue the successes of Positive Peer Influence presentations, a peer mentoring program.

In addition to leading student-centered interventions, I participated in the 504 eligibility process and 504 plan meetings, as well as IEP meetings for my students.

O'Fallon Township High School

Spring 2018

At O'Fallon Township High School, I was given the task of creating a college and career readiness program. With the opportunity to go in any direction, my creativity soared. In the end, we showcased a three part workshop for sophomore students on college and career readiness. The workshop focused on educating students about post-secondary options. The students used the program, Career Cruising and a program similar to Missouri Connections, to determine their interests, skills, and personality styles. We provided information about FAFSA, the scholarship process, collegiate athletics, and cost comparisons. In addition to this program, OTHS conducts a senior survey about student's post-secondary plans. I touched based with students that planned to work full-time/part-time or had no plans after high school. Most of these students displayed high amounts of anxiety, because college was expensive or "out of reach for them". To help students understand college was not out of their reach, I organized a field trip to the local community college where we were able to tour multiple different programs, such as the skilled trades or general education programs. We were able to hear from the Financial Aid Director and take a tour of campus.

Community Living Inc., SOAR Support Staff

August 2018 - present

To increase my experience with students with disabilities, I wanted to work for Community Living, which is a company that offers many different opportunities for families and people with disabilities. Specifically, I work for the SOAR program which is an after school program for students aged 13-21. Typically, I work either in a one-on-one or small group setting with the participants and assist them with daily activities. â€‹

In-Home Child Care Provider

July 2017 - August 2018

I had the opportunity to work for a wonderful family with three children all under the age of 5 as an in-home child care provider. On a daily basis, I communicated and followed a routine schedule to help with one of the children's anxiety. I assisted the children with deescalating strong emotions during stressful or challenging situations, whether going to school or playing with siblings. â€‹As all children are learning how to be a good friend and what is appropriate behavior, I assisted children on enhancing social skills and interpersonal relationships with their peers.

Troy Early Childhood Center Too, Teacher

January 2017 - July 2017

After my graduation from EIU, I was a full-time Teacher at an early childhood center while I begun my graduate school program. I gained valuable classroom experience by using behavior management techniques, created daily lesson plans, and enhanced children's cognitive, language, and communication skills. Once again, I found myself in a team setting where I collaborated with assistants, physical therapists, and speech language pathologist to meet the needs of the students.
